A young man died early Saturday morning in Long Beach after being ejected from a misguided car on the Pacific Coast Highway.
Just before 2:30 a.m., a driver of a 2021 BMW traveling west on the eastbound lane of PCH near Terminal Island Freeway struck the curb, causing the vehicle to lose control, fly into the air, and overturn, according to a press release from the Long Beach Police Department.
Officials say the force of the collision pushed an 18-year-old man from Wilmington out of the rear passenger seat. The victim, who is believed to have died at the scene, has yet to be identified, pending notification to relatives.
The driver, also an 18-year-old from Wilmington, and a passenger in the front seat of the car were treated at the scene and taken by the Long Beach Fire Department to a local hospital.
Police are looking into “poor driving and speed” as possible causes of the crash.
