Update (May 26/23) – Multiplayer game The Last of Us is said to have faced “failure” at Naughty Dog, and Sony is accused of “slowing development” following a recent review.
According to the report of Bloomberg, The “quality and long-term viability” of the much-anticipated The Last of Us multiplayer game seems to have been questioned. As a result, sources have stated “a small team remains involved with the project while the company reassess its direction.”
Bloomberg notes that the game hasn’t been canceled at this point, but many of the developers working on the project have been transferred to others in the company.
After Bloomberg requested comment from Naughty Dog, the studio released a statement, which you can read below in the original story.
In addition to apologizing that it’s not ready to introduce the multiplayer game The Last of Us as the project needs a little more time, Naughty Dog also confirmed that it’s working hard on a “complete single-player experience.” all new.”
Naughty Dog brought to Twitter to share the update with fans, as many are expecting the multiplayer game The Last of Us to arrive at Latest PlayStation Showcase. However, Naughty Dog confirmed that the team realized the best thing for the game was to give it more time before it was introduced to the world.

“We know many of you have been looking forward to hearing more about our multiplayer game The Last of Us,” Naughty Dog wrote. “We’re incredibly proud of the work our studio has done so far, but as development continued, we realized the best thing for the game was to spend more time on it.
“Our team will continue to work on the project, as well as our other games in development, including a brand new single-player experience; we look forward to sharing more soon.
“We’re so grateful to our amazing community for your support – thank you for your passion for our games, which continues to drive us.”
The note about the “all-new single-player experience” is obviously a fun one, but Naughty Dog previously confirmed the studio has chosen its next game but doesn’t go so far as to confirm whether it’s The Last of Us Season 3 or something else entirely.
However, fans of The Last of Us may be happy to know that there’s a sketch for the next chapter in The Last of Us, but it hasn’t been done… yet.
We still don’t know much about the multiplayer game The Last of Us, but Naughty Dog shared some art ideas from the project earlier this year and said that “the project is shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio, but one rooted in Naughty Dog’s passion for delivering stories, characters, incredible animals and gameplay.”
Naughty Dog has also said that we will learn more about the game this year, and this post does not mention that that plan will be changed.
