The first Deadpool wasn’t an origin story until Ryan Reynolds stepped in

So many projects that drag on at major studios for years will fail, especially when it’s a lone star trying to keep things alive. All the while, though, Ryan Reynolds remains a sought-after, A-list, working actor. Another superhero arrived when he got the chance to star in “Green Lantern” in 2011. When Fox made it clear that “Deadpool” wasn’t going to happen, he signed on to star in the show. DC Universe in the ill-fated adaptation. But that movie really paved the way for the “Deadpool” script to take shape.

Talk to hollywood reporter in 2017, Reynolds spoke of the overwhelming success “Deadpool” has achieved. He explained that he actually worked with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick during the production of “Green Lantern” to perfect the script. Here’s what he had to say about it at the time:

“Strange plot, somehow, somehow, ‘Deadpool’ was revived at Fox while [‘Green Lantern’] took place. […] What a lot of people don’t know is [writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick] flew to New Orleans and while I was filming ‘Green Lantern’ we actually wrote ‘Deadpool’ together.”

So, in a strange way, one of Reynolds’ biggest disasters paved the way for his greatest success. It’s poetic in a special, Hollywood-style way. In the end, everything went extremely smoothly, and Reynolds will once again dress up as the fan-favorite mutant in the sequel. “Deadpool 3” alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine for an even better chance of atonement. “Origins” wasn’t the group that fans wanted; this very good can be.
