The Rays have placed right-handed people Pete Fairbanks on the list of 15-day injury due to inflammation in the right forearm and select the contract of the right-wing veteran Chase Andersonwhom they buy from the Red Devils in exchange for cash early this morning. right-handed Zack Burdi was assigned on a mission to open a slot on the 40-person roster for Anderson.
Fairbanks has been inactive for the past few days due to symptoms of Raynaud’s disease, which can cause circulation problems and slow blood flow. That showed up in the form of paralysis in Fairbanks’ fingers. However, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times tweets that the forearm injury wasn’t linked to those symptoms but was what bothered Fairbanks during and beyond this season. Fairbanks told Topkin he hopes to return after a brief spell on the injury list.
While Fairbanks doesn’t allow for an earned run for 7 2/3rds this season, he’s not nearly as dominant as he was in 2022, when he averaged 99.2 mph on the machine. his heat and knock out 43.7% of his opponents against an excellent player. Walking rate 3.4%. Of course, we’re looking at a much smaller sample in 2023, but Fairbanks’ velocity is “falling” to an average of 98 mph and he’s only getting a 19.4% hit rate to his rate. the ugly walking rate is 12.9%. The Rays will be hoping that some downtime can get him closer to his ’22 form sooner.
Anderson, 35, played for Rays’ Triple-A club last year but did not play for the major league team. He opened the year with a 4.30 ERA in 23 plays for Cincinnati’s Triple-A club in Louisville, although his 19 to 13 K/BB ratio is clearly trouble. Anderson has a opt-out clause in his minor league contract with the Reds that he made – giving the Reds 48 hours to add him to the active roster or release him – or plan practice. The Reds clearly don’t want to replace anyone on their roster to get Anderson back into the big leagues, but the Rays see him differently.
Maybe it’ll be a short stay in Tampa Bay for Anderson, just it’s for Burdi and the veteran reliever Heath Hembree before him. The Rays have regularly cycled past the last position of their cowshed in an effort to get as many new weapons as possible to supplement their core pain relievers. With nearly eight years in MLB service, Anderson brings a wealth of experience to the table. He’s struggled a lot since 2020 but from 2014-19 was a solid fourth start against Arizona and Milwaukee, pitching to a 3.94 ERA in 857 innings.
Burdi, 28, was a first-round pick, whose career was derailed by injuries, most notably with Tommy John surgery in 2018 and a patellar tendon tear in 2019. The player Louisville’s former standout has been tagged with 15 runs earned in just 20 1/1 3 major league brackets.
That includes a few fun outings with the Rays in the most recent time. He shot three official rounds, allowing only one hit and one walk with four punches. However, that wasn’t enough to keep him on the list for a bigger look.
In Triple-A, Burdi carried a 4.81 ERA in 86 career rounds. He approved 32.5% of his opponents at the top minor league level, thanks in part to his blindingly fast ball play, but he also made 13.5 walkouts % cannot be controlled. The Rays will have a week to trade him or try to move him through the waivers altogether.
