While this is certainly big news, rumors of a fifth “John Wick” movie have been circulating even before the fourth film’s release. Since “John Wick” was released back in 2014, each successive film has steadily built on fan base and box office revenue, evolving a B-movie story about a killer. Grief Player is about to retire into a colorful action franchise with layers of its own. lore and a growing cast of characters. And with “John Wick: Chapter 4” almost half a billion dollars all around the world ($100 million than “Chapter 3”) has every reason to continue the story of Baba Yaga — at least from a financial perspective.
So far, franchise director Chad Stahelski has hinted he’s ready to make a fifth moviewhile the producer Erica Lee also revealed there will be another sequel, after the cast and crew recovered from this latest installment. And considering Joseph Drake has confirmed the film is only in early development, that should give Stahelski et al. a chance to rest and get excited about “Chapter 5” — originally planned back to “Chapter 4.”
It’s not yet clear what the fifth John Wick movie will entail. The fourth season ends by suggesting that we’ll see more of Donnie Yen’s Caine and the bow-wielding hotel concierge Akira (Rina Sawaya). But that particular plot seems to be prepped for another spin-off, which will fit very well with the “conventional rhythms” of the upcoming Wick-related media. You can also rely on that to satisfy your craving for finely crafted gun-fu action until “Chapter 5” arrives, with its prequel series “Continent” will launch Peacock in September 2023.
