The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is somewhat controversial in the Zelda fan community. However, Zelda began to struggle before its release. Nintendo was extremely disappointed with how well the Zelda was selling in both Japan and the West, and after Twilight Princess, the team tried Four Swords Adventure and decided innovation was what gamers were looking for. Unfortunately, that was another big mistake and setback for Nintendo and Zelda.
Therefore, Eiji Aonuma had to swallow bitterly. While he hated the actual Zelda presentation that Nintendo presented to promote the GameCube, the Western reaction was positive to it. So he presented a realistic Zelda to Shigeru Miyamoto, and the team went ahead with a more realistic Zelda – hopefully this project will be a success. Nintendo doesn’t always have the time/money/resources to devote to long development cycles, as revealed by Satoru Iwata, so hopefully Twilight Princess will be a hit.
