Freeway 71 will be closed this week for repairs

According to Caltrans, part of Highway 71 in the Pomona area will be closed this week for pavement work.

The highway underwent several closures earlier this year to repair potholes.

The potholes, exacerbated by torrential rain in Southern California, damaged dozens of vehicles. Potholes at a site near Holt Avenue damaged about 30 vehicles in March, causing flat tires and bent rims.

This week’s closure will begin and end as follows:

  • Northbound lanes between Chino Avenue and Rio Rancho Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday and again Friday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday.
  • The north ramp at Garey Avenue will be closed from 7 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday and from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday.
  • Freeway 60 west linking northbound 71 will be closed from 7 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday

Drivers whose cars have been damaged by potholes may file a complaint directly with Caltrans for up to $10,000.

However, claims for damages over $10,000 must be filed with the state’s Government Claims Program.
