FINANCIAL Prime Minister Sanna Marin announced today that she is divorcing her husband not long after her election defeat and a wave of party scandals.
Marin and Markus Räikkönenboth 37 years old, shared their news on Instagramwrote: “We have filed for divorce together. We are grateful for our 19 years together and for our beloved daughter.”
The couple have been dating since the age of 18 and married in an intimate ceremony in late 2020. They share a 5-year-old daughter, Emma.
Marin’s statement continued: “We remain best friends, close to each other and loving parents. Going forward, we will still spend time together as a family and with each other.
“We ask that you respect our privacy. We will not comment further on this.”
Team leader “quite wild” was not re-elected as prime minister of Finland on April 2 after becoming the world’s youngest prime minister since she assumed the role in 2019 at the age of 34.


The final months of her historic tenure have been marred by a series of controversies surrounding the young prime minister’s personal life.
In August of last year, she was fired after the leaked footage surfaced. she twerking at a party with a group of friends.
She was forced to denied she used drugs and confirmed it with a drug test to silence her critics.
Soon after, grainy footage was released showing Marin dances “intimately” with popstar Olavi Uusivirta at a nightclub.
Marin can be seen slamming the singer, who responded by insisting that the pair were not having an affair and that “nothing inappropriate” happened.
Marin bravely refused to apologize for partying and said her only regret was that the private footage was shared.
Marin said: “I’m disappointed it’s been made public. I spent the whole evening with my friends. Partying, pretty crazy, yes. Dancing and singing.”
She added: “There is no prime minister’s duty that has not been completed as I spent the evening with my friends.”
“Everybody needs a fun and relaxing evening,” she said in her defense.
The leader was then subjected to fresh criticism after a photo emerged of the two Topless women kissing at her summer palace.
At a press conference, Marin broke down declaring, “I’m just human.
“And sometimes I also long for joy, light and joy among these dark clouds.
“It’s privacy, it’s fun and that’s life,” she said. “But I didn’t miss a day of work.”
While her harshest critics say she is unfit to lead the country, others say she is a victim of a double standard due to her age and gender.
In the political scene, many of the women who have come forward to defend her say the criticism is sexist and post videos of them dancing in solidarity.
Aside from the negative headlines, Marin has been praised for her strong support of Ukraine and for leading her country through pandemic.
She has also been acclaimed for her role in advocating for Finlandsuccessfully registered to participate NATO.
Finland shares a long border with Russiaremoved the final barriers to access to NATO and become the 31st member of the military alliance on April 3.
Just a day earlier, Marin had conceded defeat in the Finnish election to the centre-right National Coalition Party in a tight three-way race that left Marin’s Social Democrats in third place.
Sanna Marin and Markus Räikkönen married in 2020 in a small ceremony at Kesäranta, the official residence of the leader, attended by only 40 of their closest friends and family.
Alongside the wedding photo, Marin wrote: “Yesterday we told each other that I would agree. I am happy and grateful to be sharing my life with the man I love.


“We have witnessed and experienced many things together, shared joys and sorrows together, and supported each other in difficult and turbulent times.
“We’ve lived our youth together, grown up and matured together with our beloved daughter. Of all people, you are mine. Thank you for being by my side.”
