Celtic transfer news: Hyeon-Gyu Oh completes £2.5m move to Scottish Premiership champions on five-year deal | Transfer Centre News

Celtic have signed South Korean striker Hyeon-Gyu Oh from Suwon Bluewings for £2.5m on a five-year deal.

The 21-year-old verbally agreed to personal terms earlier this week and has now completed a move to the Scottish Premiership champions.

Celtic coach Ange Postecoglou said: “He is a young, talented striker with great qualities and one who is ready to step into the next phase of his career – a player with hunger, desire to grow and achieve success.

“I’ve been following Oh for a while and he’s the striker I really want because I think he’ll fit in very well with our squad.

“Really important, I know that he was also meant to join us and his own persistence was the deciding factor in getting this deal done, so his determination to join Celtic is very clear.

“We are really excited to welcome him to the club and look forward to working with him and bringing him into our squad.”

Talking to Celtic TelevisionOh said: “I am very happy to play at one of the top clubs and I am very happy that my dream has come true.

“I feel like I’m in a movie and I’m really excited to be in the city and I’m looking forward to the days to come.

“This is the moment I’ve always dreamed of and I’m really excited to be performing in front of the fans at the stadium.”

Prior to signing Oh, Celtic made an offer for his international team-mate Gue-Sung Cho, but talks with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors stalled after the player’s decision was made. consider your options.

Giakoumakis will leave this month?

Postecoglou said on Friday that he expects several transfers to be confirmed in the coming days as he reports progress in both directions, with right-back Josip Juranovic then set to leave Union Berlin on Sunday.

Another player expected to leave Parkhead this month is Giorgos Giakoumakis, with Celtic accepting an initial £3m offer from Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds for strikers.

Giakoumakis is still weighing his options amid interest from MLS team Atlanta United – who have yet to make a bid – but Postecoglou said he doesn’t expect the Greece international to be in a hurry to leave.

When asked if striker Giakoumakis would still be a Celtic player at the end of January, Postecoglou said: “Until I know or hear something else, I expect them all to be Celtic players but no there’s been progress on all those kinds of issues. I guess in the next few days we’ll see how it goes.”

Postecoglou also issued a warning to any members of his team who could be upset at not being guaranteed game time following Celtic’s move.

The manager said: “There are some players who have not had a chance this year, but most of them play, they give their all.

“You can guarantee game time – but you’re not going to play for this club or any of the big clubs.

“You can win it at a club where they’re not as strong or don’t compete for titles, but that’s not what the biggest players want.

“They want to be the best and they want to win every competition. To do that, they understand that you need to have a strong squad and compete for positions.

“If at any point a player is not happy with that or wants more game time, there is a way to do it and that is to train hard and present himself in good light. possible.

“Or, you can look for other opportunities elsewhere.”
