A British tourist has been arrested on suspicion of raping a female friend of his son at a hotel in Magaluf.
The woman, also believed to be British, told detectives she was forced to have sex after oversleeping in her friend’s room, which had an inner door leading to his father’s room.
The elderly man is said to have surprised her in the middle of the night after entering the room while his son was partying outside.
The tourist was detained at Palma Airport in Majorca after allegedly packing his luggage and attempting to leave the island in a hurry a few hours later.
According to local reports, the alleged rape victim, about 20 years old, fled the hotel anonymously and raised the alarm at a Civil Guard office near the Punta Ballena party district in Magaluf.
Majorcan’s daily Ultima Hora said officers took her statement before arriving at the hotel and discovered the man they were looking for had left the hotel.
He was arrested at his boarding gate, for allegedly ending his vacation early by delaying his return before he intended to leave by purchasing a new ticket home.
An investigative judge ordered his incarceration after he was dragged into court for questioning during a closed session in which the alleged victim recounted her events.
The Spanish Civil Guard has not yet commented on the incident and the subsequent arrest, which is believed to have occurred on Tuesday.
Court officials could not be reached early this morning.
The man in custody, believed to be around 45 years old, has not been named.
He has yet to be formally charged with any crime, as is common in Spain, where formal charges are brought only shortly before trial.
In March, police arrested two men accused of robbing and sexually assaulting a British tourist in Magaluf.
The pair are said to have ripped off the 25-year-old woman’s skirt and underwear, and stolen her watch and designer jewelry before fleeing the scene when police arrived.
A police officer was injured when the suspects, two Colombians aged 19 and 24, resisted arrest.
The incident happened at dawn on March 3 near a bank on a street in Magaluf, a short walk from the popular party district of Punta Ballena.
The watch worn by the British woman is said to be worth nearly £2,000.
Last weekend, five police officers were injured and 10 people were arrested in a mass scuffle in the early hours in Magaluf attended by about 50 revelers.

Yobs were filmed fighting and throwing rockets at each other as well as the police.
The Portuguese football thugs were later described by detectives as “the main group that started the fight”, which resulted in a young Moroccan player being knocked unconscious by a Romanian man.
