Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter, Apple Martin, sat in the front row at the launch of the Chanel Haute Couture spring-summer 2023 collection, marking her first show ever. The January 24 event took place during Paris Fashion Week, which saw appearances from the likes of Kylie Jenner and Cat Doja at Schiaparelli, and Anya Taylor-Joy at Dior. Eighteen-year-old Martin, whose father is a musician Coldplay Chris Martin, appeared in the fashion house’s classic tweed black-and-white checkered suit, which she paired the accessory with square-heeled loafers; a small crossbody bag with a fun beaded strap; a delicate Coco necklace; and shimmering heart-shaped earrings. Martin parted his long blond hair in the middle and opted for bold eyeliner, peach lips, and ballet pink nail polish.

This look isn’t completely different from the one Paltrow wore at the Chanel Haute Couture spring/summer 2016 show: a gem-cut cropped jacket and matching pleated midi skirt in the same color palette. The look-alike mother-daughter duo can now be seen as the brand’s muse, with fashion editor Derek Blasberg seemingly confirming the budding relationship on Instagram: “Karl Lagerfeld met Apple Martin when she was 4 years old and announced that one day she would become a Chanel girl. It happened today! 🍎🤍🇫🇷,” he wrote, Comment further below your caption: “That feeling of pride 😍.”

The launch range includes a variety of neutrals, with embroidered animal worlds created by the artist Xavier Veilhancurrently working with creative director Virginie Viard on three separate projects. Kittens, corgis, bunnies and swallows were sewn into dresses and skirts, and even the final bridal gown closed the show, which was fully furnished with a veil. Notably, the cast of models lacked body diversity, but they burst from behind the monumental-style animal carvings Veilhan installed on the catwalk, made to depict a square the village.

The front row also features familiar Chanel faces like Sadie Sink, Lucy Boynton, Marion Cotillard, Vanessa Paradis and Tilda Swinton, all of whom opted for sparkling tweed designs and accessories. stand out for close-up shots.
